Mold has a way of building up slowly - so slowly that most people don't realize how bad it's gotten until they really look. That's exactly what happened here. Years of organic buildup had turned what was once a clean, textured block wall into something dark and neglected. The decorative block inserts near the top had almost completely lost their detail under all that grime.
This is where the right process matters. High pressure on a wall like this would have caused real damage - blasted out mortar, etched the block face, left the surface worse off than before. So we went with a soft wash approach instead. That means low pressure combined with professional-grade cleaning solutions that actually kill the mold at the root rather than just pushing it around.
The difference is significant. The natural tan color of the block came back completely. The decorative cutout panels look like they're supposed to again. And the stone lantern and surrounding garden area were left untouched - soft washing gives us that kind of precision, which matters a lot when you're working close to plants and delicate features.
If your block wall, stone fence, or masonry surface has been slowly going dark over the years, it's probably mold and algae doing the heavy lifting. It doesn't just look bad - it holds moisture against the surface and speeds up deterioration over time. Cleaning it the right way is one of the simplest things you can do to protect that investment.
